Elevation & Plans
The design variety chosen for the buildings is contemporary but uncomplicated, easily maintained but vibrant. The central theme is the ‘hit and miss' panels of abstracted materials and windows not only readily found elsewhere in Norwich but also readily and sustainably sourced. This visual treatment of the buildings using timber, glass, steel, clay, flint and render seeks to make reference to the randomness of the city that surrounds it without directly copying any one style or period.
In response, and prior to any design work commencing, an in-depth study of Norwich was undertaken to achieve a greater understanding of just ‘what does make Norwich Norwich?'
We believe:
- The texture of building materials
- The delight factor of exploring urban spaces and discovery
- A reflection of the City's historic heritage: a blend of new and old buildings that sit well in each other's company but often make no reference to each other in scale or use of materials
- The colour of materials; timber, flint, tiles, brick, metal, paving and the market
- Vibrancy of the people and buildings of Norwich
